Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Monterey County - $40,000

Funding provided support to continue and expand their one-on-one mentoring programs throughout Monterey County.

Boys & Girls Club of Monterey County - $100,000

This matching grant provided operating support for core services for children ages 7-17.

Carmel Youth Center - $9000

The Carmel Youth Center provides after school homework and computer assistance for youth. This funding helped support their Computer and Tutoring Center.

Center for Community Advocacy - $30,000

The Center for Community Advocacy was established to assist farm workers, particularly in improving their housing conditions in the labor camps and elsewhere. This matching grant provided operating support for their housing advocacy, health promotion, and leadership development programs.

Central Coast YMCA - $285,000

This funding was awarded for their youth programs ($85,000) and to help match a challenge grant from the Kresge Foundation for their capital campaign ($200,000).

Chartwell School - $35,000

Chartwell School, located in Seaside, specializes in education for students with dyslexia or other language processing and reading difficulties. Funding provided support for their family/child counseling program and to help increase their community outreach services throughout Monterey County.

Children’s Services International- $25,000

This grant provided funding to help make capital improvements to the Family Services & Child Care Center & the Mountain Valley Child Development Center.

Community Human Services - $60,000

Funding provided operating support for Super Kids and Super Teens school-based counseling services for youth throughout Monterey County.

Educational Resources of Monterey County - $25,000

This funding helped offset costs of building a community ampitheater at their North County facility. Educational Resources of Monterey County (ERMCO) provides educational programs, activities and events for youth.

Exploring New Horizons Outdoor Schools - $20,000

This grant helped offset costs of their 5-day environmental outdoor education programs for 435 youth in Monterey County.

Family Service Agency of the Central Coast - $25,000

This matching grant provided operating support to expand their SAFE Project in Monterey County. This project provides suicide awareness and prevention services for youth and at-risk individuals in the workplace.

Food Bank for Monterey County - $50,000

This matching grant provided operating support for the Emergency Food Assistance Program, providing supplemental food to low-and-no income families with children of all ages in Monterey County.

Foundation for Monterey County Free Libraries - $50,000

This matching grant provided operating support for the Emergency Food Assistance Program, providing supplemental food to low-and-no income families with children of all ages in Monterey County.

Girl Scouts of Monterey - $25,000

This funding provided support to help them continue their outreach programs at their East Salinas facility and throughout Monterey County.

Girls Inc. of the Central Coast

This grant provided operating support for the Smart Choices and ECHO Leadership project serving high-risk girls ages 10-18.

Gonzales Youth Football - $5,000

This matching grant helped to expand the current football activities for youth in Chualar, Gonzales, Greenfield, King City and Soledad.

Harmony at Home $25,000

This funding helped to support and expand the Sticks & Stones school-based counseling program for youth and their families in the Alisal School District.

Hike N Seek Children’s Foundation - $10,000

This matching grant provided support for the continuation of their public awareness programs to encourage responsible parenting in Monterey County.

Junior Achievement of Silicon Valley & Monterey Bay - $15,000

Funding helped to implement an After-school Junior Achievement program for young people in Monterey County.

Kinship Center $40,000

This grant provided operating support for the “Family Ties” program, offering caregiver support for families in Monterey County.

Lyceum of Monterey County - $20,000

This matching grant provided operating support for the Salinas and Salinas Valley programs for youth throughout Monterey County

Mexican American Opportunity Foundation $25,000

MAOF provides early childhood education and family services for migrant children and families in Monterey County. Capital funds helped them set up an outdoor playground at their new child care center in East Salinas.

Monterey County Court Appointed Special Advocate - $35,000

This matching grant provided operating support to continue advocate support services for children within the Juvenile Dependency court system.

Monterey County Police Activities League $25,000

Monterey County PAL provides quality youth programs to engage youth pro-actively in enrichment, recreational, educational and athletic activities. This grant helped launch an after-school program for girls attending North County Middle School.

Monterey Rape Crisis Center - $20,000

The Monterey Rape Crisis Center provides personal safety and child abuse prevention programs to more than 12,000 public school students annually at the kindergarten, 3rd, 6th and 10th grade levels. This funding helped support the Personal Safety and Child Abuse Prevention Education Program.

O-Neill Sea Odyssey - $15,000

O’Neill Sea Odyssey provides a free, ocean-based science and environmental stewardship program in which students learn practical applications for math and science, while learning that the ocean is a living organism. Funding provided operating support for their programs.

Rancho Cielo (Natividad) - $50,000

This grant provided operating support for their youth programs at the Rancho Natividad property, a centralized location for prevention, remediation and recreational services for court-involved or at-risk youth.

Salinas Girls Fastpitch, Inc. - $14,000

This softball program serves girls up to the age of 18 throughout Monterey County. This grant helped to send 4 teams to four national tournaments.

Salinas Jaycees Foundation - $10,000

The Salinas Jaycees have sponsored a community-supported Christmas shopping tour to purchase winter clothing for disadvantaged children from 29 Salinas area schools for over 50 years. This funding supported the 2006 shopping tour, providing 435 children the opportunity to shop for new clothing.

Salinas Salad Bowl Bobby Sox $4,000

This discretionary grant helped 5 teams go to the national tournament in the San Francisco Bay area.

Sammie’s Kids Foundation $10,000

Sammie’s Kids provides tote bags and backpacks that contain a night light, toothbrush, toiletries, blanket, a pair of pajamas, underwear, socks, new shoes and a set of sweats to the Cherish Receiving Center for children who first come into foster care. This funding helped with the purchase of clothing and personal items.

Second Chance Youth Program $50,000

This matching grant provided operating support for their gang prevention, counseling, outreach, and leadership programs.

Shelter Oureach Plus $35,000

This organization provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, outreach, and supportive services to domestic violence victims and homeless individuals and families. This funding provided staff support and helped offset costs associated with the initial development steps for 14 units of transitional housing in Marina.

Sunrise House - $20,000

This matching grant provided operating support to help them continue to provide crisis intervention, drug intervention/prevention and education services for youth and families in Monterey County.

Turning Point of Central California, Region 5 $15,000

Turning Point provides medical, housing, recreation, education and family counseling for youth and adults to help them develop skills, motivation and resources to become productive members of society. This grant provided support for the Silver Star Youth Employment, Adult Employment & the Community Treatment Center programs in Monterey County.

Ventana Wilderness Society - $35,000

This matching grant provided operating support for the Natural Science Camp and the Outdoor Leadership Training & Mentor Program for youth throughout Monterey County.

Victim Offender Reconciliation Program of the Central Coast - $20,000

The Victim Offender Reconciliation Program is a program of the Community Restorative Justice Commission with a primary mandate to oversee community education on Restorative Justice issues and assess community needs and resources. This grant provided support for their programs.

Women's Crisis Center - $20,000

HardenFoundation funding provided operating support for Project Give, a victim education program.

Young Life of Salinas Valley and Seaside - $400,000

Young Life was established in 1940 in Gainesville, Texas and has grown to over 706 active areas within the United States as well as 40 countries worldwide. Funding included the donation of the Lang Street building to this organization and provided operating support for the Salinas and Seaside programs.

YWCA of Monterey County $25,000

This funding provided operating support for the Sticks & Stones counseling program for elementary school children on the Monterey Peninsula.
